Do you know this feeling?
You wake up in the morning, get your first espresso, light a cigarette, and start reading the news. Then, the first news item makes you want to go back to bed immediately. Have you been there? Great, now you know how I feel.
Why? Because of this:
BT and Talk Talk have lost an appeal over controversial measures to tackle copyright infringement online.
So, the UK joins other crazy states and adopts the three-strike-rule and other unconstitutional measures.
Dear Brits, this is how I feel:
The majority of authors here at diablog are Brits.
Thus, I demand an explanation from them, what is next?
Will cricket be dropped in favor of Baseball?
When will football be called soccer in your neck of the woods?
Will you drop the English language and speak French from now on? After all, the French were first in adopting three-strikes.
When will those guys
be tought, that one IP address does not equal one computer, much less one person?
Did you adopt the three-strike model because of your love of Spain, which was second to adopt it? If so, why didn't you move there in the first place?
I always thought Brits are smarter. Obviously, you are not.
Stay sane,
Engine Room

And we need to be told this by an American !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes I wish he would stay in bed all day.
Yeah, I know, Smiles,
That does hurt, doesn't it?
Please yesterday's post about the USA. That should heal your wounds, at least a bit.
ER
Edit(h) says, there is a "see" missing between Please and yesterday's.
ER
Actually ER, I do not think as myself as English anymore. I do not follow UK politics but there again I do not follow any politics.
I go back only to see parents, family and some friends. To watch football and drink some good beer.
I feel sorry for the British people as they do not realise that they are a small island people and they are missing so much by not seeing and understanding the big world. The same could be said about US citizens, who learn Geography through war.
Just came in from Warsaw. Poland is really buzzing.
Dear Smiles,
Thanks,I could not agree more, with one exception:
Informing oneself about politics is a must. At least where it has an impact upon one's life.
Thanks again,
ER
OK. We choose to differ over politics.
Looking forward to having a drink with you one day.
When was the last time something had an impact on what you call a life ER?
The censoring of newzbin2 did have an impact on Pete's life. An easy, recent example.
Smoking bans have an impact on our life.
Travel restrictions and "security measures" like TSA groping.
Want more? Switch on your brain.
ER
Has Glynsky recently been to a Doctor as I would like to see a written and professional confirmation that he still has a brain. Only joking Glynsky.
I love the smoking ban and it should be extended.
Probably I go through more airport security controls than the rest of you and I never have any problems, even in USA. I smile (hence my name) and am polite and let them get on with their difficult job.
Dear Smiles,
He had asked about my life, not yours.
Here's another example:
The number of friends unwilling to visit NY/US has increased lately to now more than a dozen.
That includes someone called Glynsky. But he lacks the brain to make the connection and is no loss.
ER
Ooooh, you twoooo!
My brain at mo is full of dust and plaster from the construction, in Glynsky Towers, of the vaunted 'ER Loveshack'.
One day Smiles you will have to explain what is 'difficult' about the job of airport security. It needs one brain cell, a scowl and 'jobsworth/I'm important' attitude.
Have you EVER seen them find anything - other than confiscating bottled water/hair shampoo/nail files?
I haven't witnessed bins full of unexploded bombs, detonators, ICBM's or rotting haggis.
Mind you, I am with you re most of the rest - all ER's angst just leads to neurosese. Life is life - just get on with it. For now we don't live in totalitarian states - just!
