Happy Birthday WWW

Dear Reader,

On this day 20 years ago Tim Berners-Lee invited the readers of the Usenet discussion group "alt.hypertext" to test the world wide web or www. Here you can read his text:

Thanks to him, we are publishing diablog and you are reading our stuff.
Tim's computer was the first webserver, what is NeXT?

The teenage years are over. We all should grow up a little bit. The Web 2.0 was about user participation. Now we shall start a period of user emancipation.

As mentioned here, we should get our own personal webserver to
  • gain independence from platforms
  • take back control over our data and
  • prevent censorship
I hope the Freedombox Foundation will enable many of us to do so.

Happy birthday www,

Engine Room
