When I was young never needed anyone
making love was just for fun
those days are gone
I am sure there's a song there somewhere..
Going back to when I was actually youthful, I used to sit across the desk at work from this bloke called Graham Lyle who reckoned he was gonna make it as some kind of pop star, as we called them in those days.
I heard all this before from other friends and I admit I was somewhat cynical of his musical ambitions at the time. Most of us who had ever picked up a guitar in the late 60's reckoned we
could make it bigger and better than he ever would with his
unpronounceable scottish accent and reddish hair.
The end result of all this was me leaving the company after 3 weeks unbroken loyal service to go abroad to win a war in the middle east. (another story for another time)
When I return to The UK three months later I was catching up with events over here which including watching a TV program called Top Of The Pops.
There he was this ex workmate of mine on the telly!
Well you could have knocked me down with a crowbar because there he was singing in a band called McGuinness Flintt this great song he had co written
"When I'm dead and Gone"
Since those days Graham Lyle has become a world renowned singer/songwritter and has written songs for all the artists named below.
Diana Ross, Anita Baker, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Elkie Brooks, Rita Coolidge, Eros Ramazzotti, Ricky Nelson, Bill Medley, Anne Murray, Ringo Starr, Bryan Ferry, Simon & Garfunkel, Olivia Newton-John, Rod Stewart, Hall & Oates, The Neville Brothers, Sheena Easton, Jim Diamond, Paul Young, Mica Paris, Taylor Dayne, Tom Jones, The Judds, Natalie Cole, Crystal Gayle, Ray Charles, Patti Labelle, Don Williams, Kenny Rogers, Wet Wet Wet, Joe Cocker and Conner Reeves.
I suppose we all make mistakes Diablog, and this was one of my better ones.
